Old-Fashioned Hootenanny

Friday June 10th, 7-9 p.m., Admission $10

The Peninsula Players will be hosting an old-fashioned Hootenanny on June 10 at the River City Theater in Ilwaco. The event will begin at seven in the evening and will conclude about nine. Admission will be ten dollars at the door.

For those who don’t remember, Hootenannies were held by folk groups in the 1950s and 60s. Several musicians gathered to sing and play folk music. You could put your “flowers in your hair” and listen to performers like Joan Baez, Peter, Paul and Mary or Simon and Garfunkel. Sometimes these Hootenannies lasted until dawn. Most of the attendees were familiar with the songs and sang along for a night of celebration for the “love” children.

Pauline Luce and Natasha Luce will be the featured entertainers. Their song list will include songs like If I had a Hammer, 500 Miles and Big Yellow Taxi. The group is a mother-daughter team who have recently moved to our area from the east coast. Pauline’s day job is at the Eagles and many of you will recognize her from there. Pauline was also one of the featured artists at the Peninsula Has Talent show.

Although most of their songs will come from the folk song era, some of their numbers will be more recent. But all should be familiar to the audience.

It was a tradition as the night wore on to allow other musicians to use the mike during their breaks. That will also happen on Friday night. So those of you who have a folk song to present to the “love children”, tune up your instrument and come on down!
