Something new has been added to this month’s Improv Night at the 2nd Story Playhouse in Ilwaco. Mike Bradberry, a 15-year member of the Screen Actors’ Guild in New York, will be “setting the stage” for a continuing free acting class, sponsored by the Peninsula Players.

“We’ll determine when and how often we’ll meet after we see who is interested in attending the class,” said Bradberry. “It may be one evening a week, or Saturday afternoons, or some other time.”

Improv Night, hosted by Karl Johnson, is normally held the third Saturday of the month, unless there’s a performance happening that night. This month’s Improv, plus activities with Mike Bradberry, will be on January 16, from 7 to 9 p.m.
“We’ll call it ‘Intro to Acting,’” said Bradberry, “although those with some stage experience will certainly gain skills from participating.” As an example, he demonstrated how an actor holding a cup sometimes forgets there is supposed to be liquid inside the cup and unthinkingly flails it around while speaking.

“While Mike is offering the class free of charge, donations are always welcome to help pay for the heat, lights, and other utilities,” said Janis Hoover, President of the Peninsula Players.

“Membership to the Players is not required to attend the class either, but a year’s membership to help support our community theater is just $10,” chimed in Membership Chairperson Rose Wallace.

The 2nd Story Playhouse is located at 108 Spruce Street in Ilwaco, on the corner above JT’s Café.  For more information call 360-642-4932.
